Haiti Mission: Day 6

Day 6-Sunday march 21st

Today I went to the church in the center of the domain. The place was packed. I sat in the section where all the children from the orphanage were sitting. As the service was gone on, many children got closer and closer. The first part of the service was gospel in Creole and English. I enjoyed very much being able to read the lyrics on the screen and understood much of the words. Most Haitians are Christians and strong believers that God will save them. I got tears in my eyes when they sang a song that was saying:”Thank you God for saving me”. The lyrics take a strong meaning when you realize what this nation has gone through.

It’s been five days and I basically have not slept more than three times one hour. My tent gets very hot at night and some team members stay out talking until 1 a.m. and then the ones that slept inside and are early risers get up at 5:00 a.m. and start talking outside my tent.

Even though it is a little uncomfortable and too hot, I am still reluctant to sleep inside as there are very nice bunk beds and fans in every room as the guesthouse displays very deep and long cracks in the walls in many places. My concern is to be inside a building in case of an other earthquake. A person told me that they are predicting another earthquake in a near future. Here are the pictures of the cracks. You can comment if you would sleep inside if you were me in this situation.
