Haiti Mission: day 3

Day 3-Thursday march 18th
I woke up with stomach cramps which usually happens on the 6th day of the mission. It did get way better after taking all the right medication. I was able to do my day of consultations and learned more Creole. Many people were reporting sadness and depression since the earthquake but as a temporary mission, I feel very uncomfortable giving any kind of anti-depressant (so I don’t) as without the proper follow-up people could consider overdosing to quiet their pain. So we do a lot of counselling and hugging.

I am glad I brought my foetal Doppler so I was able to make the pregnant women hear their baby’s hearth. One woman who was five months pregnant felt very relieved to hear her baby’s heartbeat as she had not felt it moving for a few days and was imagining the worst.
Tonight, it finally started raining so that really cooled the air. Unfortunately the inside of our tents is drenched.
P.S. I forgot to mention that yesterday three players from the Philadelphia Eagles came down here helping out (mixing concrete and helping) as they wanted to raise awareness of the situation here. I find it pretty cool that even though they are celebrities they are still caring and down to earth. Hats off!
